The full text of Daniel Kebede’s closing speech to NEU Annual Conference, Bournemouth, 6 April 2024.
We expect schools, colleges and settings to be accessible for all staff and students.
Our members should not be penalised for sickness absence where working arrangements have not been adjusted to accommodate their needs.
Government must commit the investment to improve safety and dignity for pregnant women in the workplace.
The NEU will continue to oppose minimum services levels and lobby a future Labour government to repeal the measures at the earliest opportunity.
Teachers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland should not be paid less than their counterparts in Scotland.
Enough is enough. Support staff play a vital role in the education of our children and young people.
NEU are calling for an end to unfairness on pay and conditions and equity for all educators.
Working people must not be left behind in a transition from carbon. The costs must fall on those most able to pay.
Education can challenge sexist stereotypes and behaviours before ideas and incidents escalate.
