Following the Minister’s revised offer for teachers in Wales, NEU Cymru are consulting their teacher members, to see whether they accept or reject the offer, via an electronic ballot, which opens today.

Speaking about the consultation with members, David Evans, Wales Secretary for the National Education Union Cymru, said:

“It’s important everyone remembers there was no offer on the table until the outcome of our strike ballot in January.

“This is an opportunity for members to decide whether they accept or reject the offer from the Welsh Government.

“The Minister’s improved offer now includes a 1.5% consolidated pay rise and 1.5% non-consolidated (one off lump-sum) for 22/23, on top of the 5% already paid, and a 5% rise for 23/24 academic year. The refreshed offer also commits the WG to fully funding this offer.

“The Minister for Education and Welsh Language also offered to pay the extra 3% for 22/23, from Welsh Government reserves, if we agreed to suspend strike action.

“The National Executive of the NEU is making decisions about how we continue to campaign for support staff in the near future, and we will be writing to the Minister imminently to outline the concerns of our support staff members.”

The ballot will be communicated electronically with members and will be open from 16th to 23rd March.
