Young people in Gaza

All children have the right to life, to live and play without fear of violence and to attend school and learn in safety.

Thank You for Supporting the Save the Children Gaza emergency appeal

The NEU is proud to announce that the NEU/Save the Children Gaza appeal raised over £150,000. We would like to thank all members, districts and regions that donated to the appeal and raised this phenomenal sum to support Sav the Children's humanitarian work in Gaza.

The appeal is now closed but members can continue to donate to the to the DEC Middle East Appeal and the EI Emergency Fund for Teachers in Gaza and Palestine - details below.

DEC Middle East Appeal

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. Conflict across Gaza and Lebanon is dramatically escalating, following a year of an ever-worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The recent escalation of hostilities in Lebanon, and the humanitarian and displacement crisis it continues to cause, is putting populations at risk and further threatening regional security and stability. Children are paying the heaviest price for an unrelenting war they’ve played no part in.

The DEC appeal brings together 15 leading UK aid charities in times of crisis, all experts in delivering humanitarian aid. These 15 are coming together to work as a united front, with one shared mission – to help as many children and families as possible.

In Gaza, the scale of need is overwhelming. Over the past year, 1.9 million people have been internally displaced – most several times – and 2 million people are facing acute food insecurity. Over 42,000 people have been killed. The healthcare system is close to collapse. Not a single hospital remains fully operational, and fewer than half are functioning at all.  Medical care for the sick and injured is critically scarce, and everyone is dealing with the trauma of daily life in a conflict zone.

In Lebanon, over a million people have fled their homes since mid-September. Airstrikes over the past year have killed more than 2,000 people and injured thousands more. The latest escalation is stretching the healthcare system to its limits.

Any support districts or members can give to the appeal will make an enormous difference. Your donation will be used to provide lifesaving support in Gaza and Lebanon, and other areas affected including the West Bank and Syria.

Support to teachers in Gaza and Palestine

The NEU is proud to support Education International’s (EI) solidarity fund for teachers in Gaza and Palestine.

Education has been halted since October 2023 for Gaza’s 625,000 students and the war has severely impacted the lives and livelihoods of the enclave's 22,564 teachers.

With support from the EI solidarity fund, The General Union of Palestinian Teachers (GUPT0 has been able to organise training sessions for members to equip them with the skills needed to provide vital emotional support to their students who are traumatised by the ongoing war and mass population displacement.

Our continued solidarity and support with educators in Gaza is more important than ever.

Districts and members can donate to the Solidarity Fund here: Education International ING Bank 24, Avenue Marnix 1000 Brussels IBAN: BE05 3101 0061 7075 Swift: BBRUBEBB With the indication: Humanitarian Assistance Appeal 2023/11. Please do not include the word ‘Palestine’ in labelling your payment, as banks are suspicious of bank transfers to zones at war or undergoing political instability.
