Young people in Gaza

All children have the right to life, to live and play without fear of violence and to attend school and learn in safety.

Please support our Gaza emergency appeal

The NEU is working with Save the Children to provide food, water, toiletries and psychosocial support for the children of Gaza.

There is currently no formal education or schooling for Gaza’s 625,000 children. Over 80% of schools in Gaza have been damaged and destroyed.

Over 14,000 children have been killed since 7 October and thousands more injured. The psychosocial impact of this horrific war will have consequences for decades to come.

The incredible efforts of NEU members has meant that our fundraising appeal for Gaza has now topped £100,000. This vital support is enabling Save the Children to help children get the lifesaving support they so desperately need right now, as well as supporting their recovery.

Yet the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza continues to rapidly deteriorate, and thousands of children are not getting the food and medical care they need to survive. That’s why we have extended our fundraising appeal so that we can raise more funds to enable Save the Children can reach even more children in crisis.

Support to teachers in Gaza and Palestine

The NEU is proud to support Education International’s (EI) solidarity fund for teachers in Gaza and Palestine.

Over €200,000 has so far been raised by 34 EI member organisations, including the NEU, which has enabled the Palestinian Teachers’ Union (GUPT) and the early education workers’ union to provide direct support to 1,077 teachers, including 913 in Gaza and 168 in West Bank. With Palestinian teachers now going over five months without pay this vital support has enabled teachers to buy food and other essentials for their families amid the dire humanitarian situation.

The GUPT has also organised training sessions for members to equip teachers with the skills needed to provide vital emotional support to their students who are traumatised by the ongoing war and mass population displacement. Training sessions were organised in five schools in Gaza and online for 64 teachers from ten schools in the West Bank.

Tragically 261 teachers have been in killed in Gaza, while thousands more have lost their homes and loved ones. Our continued solidarity and support with educators in Gaza is more important than ever.
