Commenting on the list of key workers whose children will be prioritised during the period of school closures, David Evans, Wales secretary for NEU Cymru, said:
“It is vitally important that parents follow Government advice and keep their children at home where possible. The fewer children come in to school, the easier it will be to keep everyone safe – children and education professionals alike. These will be difficult times for everyone.
“The list this morning of key workers is a long one – and could result in many children and young people attending schools in some areas. We’re concerned this may not achieve the aim in slowing the virus down.
“We’re waiting on a clear indication of what vulnerable looks like, in terms of those children who will be able to come in. But we hope the local authorities can work with our members to ensure everyone is as safe as possible in our communities.”
