NEU Members at Caerleon Comprehensive had plans for a series of activities this week, including protesting at the Senedd and Civic Offices in Newport. But following discussions at the end of last week, they have agreed to pause their activity in advance of meaningful discussions.
David Evans, Wales secretary for the National Education Union Cymru, said:
“We welcomed the opportunity to meet with Cllr Jane Mudd, Leader of the Council, and other council officials to enable them to hear the concerns that have led to the industrial action.
“I think it is clear that our members are extremely concerned about the education of young people in the school, especially those with special, or additional learning needs although per-pupil funding does still remain a concern.
“Members at the school have agreed not to proceed with their action at Caerleon Comprehensive School this week to enable all parties to engage in meaningful discussions at the earliest possible opportunity, and hope we can come to a solution which does not disadvantage young people or our members.”
The strike action is paused and next steps depend on the nature of discussions.
