Devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

The scale of the devastation across south-east Turkey and Syria after two earthquakes hit the region is hard to comprehend.

With at least 5,000 deaths and millions of people impacted, our hearts and thoughts are with all those affected, including children and educators.

Schools, hospitals and other critical infrastructure have been damaged or destroyed by the quakes. Thousands of homes have been ruined, displacing families and exposing them to freezing temperatures. Moreover, children in Syria were already contending with one of the most complex humanitarian situations in the world which has now been nightmarishly exacerbated.

Children and their families need immediate support – the international community, including the UK Government, must step up and provide the help that is required.
