International Workers' Memorial Day

On 28 April every year workers and their representatives remember the dead and fight for the living.

The Climate Crisis and Workers’ Health #IWMD24

The focus is on the impact of climate change on occupational safety and health. Like other workplaces, schools and colleges are affected by extreme weather events, whether heatwaves, flooding, storm damage or by the air pollution that is part of the problem.  Many buildings are in a poor condition, whether because of asbestos, RAAC or a simple failure to keep up with maintenance.  All need to be made safer, greener, more comfortable places to learn and work.

How can NEU members mark the day?

In the run up to 28 April we are encouraging NEU health and safety reps to undertake a buildings inspection to highlight building safety issues.

We are working with TUC who are encouraging safety reps from all unions to undertake a building inspection in the run up to 28 April. Please pledge to take part.

The TUC website also has links to wider events that are happening across the country.
