International solidarity in the age of Trump, aid cuts, and right-wing populism
With crises and conflicts multiplying around the world, strengthening international solidarity is vital. Yet, donor countries are retreating from their international obligations to the world’s most vulnerable people and slashing their aid budgets. At the same time, the foundations of international law are collapsing, and we are witnessing the election of powerful populist politicians, and political parties preaching messages of division and hate.
The increasingly popular NEU International Solidarity Conference will hear from a range of experts from around the world to consider how NEU members can respond to the dismantling of the international aid system, collapse of international law and the rise of the far-right.
Panels include Education in Gaza, Solidarity with Congo and Sudan, Trump’s war on workers and Learning the lessons from Srebrenica in tackling the growth of the far-right.
Speakers include:
- Saed Erziqat - General Secretary, General Union of Palestinian Teachers
- Olga Chabaniuk - Vice President, Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine
- Jelmer Evers – Director, European Trade Union Committee for Education
- Nasser Faqih – Chief of Partnerships, Education Cannot Wait
- Mohammed Amin - CEO, Rohingya Centre UK
