Annual conference 2024 - day 1
Invest in education #NEU2024
We look forward to great debate and discussion of the issues affecting educators and the children we teach.
Day 1 press
State of education: Ofsted
82% of teachers surveyed believe Ofsted should be replaced with a new system of inspection.
State of education: workload and wellbeing
The majority of teachers are struggling with workload.
State of education: SEND
Seven in eight respondents tell us the SEND resources they do have are insufficient.
Value Early Years
The NEU values the early years sector. Itβs about time the government did too.
Members vote to abolish Ofsted
Ofsted causes more harm than good and we need urgent and fundamental reform.
An inclusive curriculum for all
We should be developing a curriculum for children and young people that supports the democratic values of a diverse Britain.
SATs β bad for children, time for a change
SATs are not a useful or accurate way of assessing what children can do.
TLRs in primary school
Expecting teachers to work for free is not acceptable. No teacher should be required to undertake additional responsibilities without appropriate TLRs. .
A national campaign for support staff pay and equal rights
The NEU will work with other support staff Unions to ensure that all support staff receive the respect and renumeration that they so clearly deserve.
Workload β building a national campaign
The NEU will continue putting pressure on the Government to live up to its commitments to reduce workload and working hours
State of education: child poverty
Teachers and support staff are regularly paying to help disadvantaged pupils in their care.
Post-16: Beyond breaking point
With a lack of funding and cuts to staff, the post-16 sector has been treated badly for years.
