An introduction to trauma and mental health informed schools – part 1

This training, supported by over 1000 evidence-based research studies, is designed to empower school staff to understand the needs of children and teenagers who have suffered a trauma or have a mental health issue. Delegates will also learn what happens in Trauma and Mental Health Informed schools in terms of key relational approaches and interventions to positively impact the whole school culture. This session will cover:  

  • The neuroscience and psychology of child and adolescent mental health and mental ill-health: what every teacher needs to know
  • Model One: ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) study and Protective Factors in schools that change children’s lives
  • Model Two: Professor Jaak Panksepp’s model of mental health, mental ill-health and theory of change 

This is part one of a two-part session. The second part is on Monday 2 November – 3.15-5.00pm - there will be a 15 minute Q&A in the second session, so be sure to sign up for it too. Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide recordings of these sessions.

This session will be delivered by Christine Davies from Trauma Informed Schools UK, a not-for-profit organisation committed to improving the health, well-being and ability to learn of children and teenagers in the UK and beyond. The organisation has a wealth of experience in working with and supporting young people from all walks of life. Christine has had over 25 years’ experience in education as a teacher and senior leader in mainstream and special schools and as a Local Authority Adviser. Christine has extensive experience as trainer and is passionately committed to supporting colleagues and families to improve the life chances of troubled and troubling children and young people.
