Today and tomorrow (12th-13th March 2024), teacher members of the National Education Union are again taking strike action at The Cathedral School, Llandaff, after the disappointing offer on pay and pensions from their employer.
Dr Claire Rickard and Ms Megan Dickson, NEU Reps at The Cathedral School, said: "We are being forced to choose between a sub-state sector salary now, or a sub-state sector pension in the future."
Fair pay is not just a request, but a necessity. Schools deserve proper funding for staffing provision - and the necessary funding to cover a pay rise.
The NEU’s written evidence to the STRB sets out the overwhelming evidence in support of the NEU’s call for a fully funded, above-inflation pay rise that constitutes a meaningful step towards a long-term correction in teacher pay.
Strike action is a last resort but it will be an option our members will seriously consider in the face of such a belligerent approach from this Government.
If Government is serious about addressing the reasons behind absences, they need to ensure schools and parents have the means to get the help required.
