On 7 October, NEU Cymru can now announce the results of the online poll, in which a total of 94.3 per cent of voters said they wished to ACCEPT the offer of 5.5%, made by the Welsh Government in September.
Speaking about the results, Nicola Fitzpatrick, Interim Wales Secretary for the National Education Union (NEU) Cymru, said:
“It's clear that NEU Cymru members wish to accept this offer and settle this phase of our dispute with Welsh Government over pay.
“But let me be clear – the fight to win back the pay teachers have lost in real terms over the last decade and more does not end here.
“It was our historic ballot results and days of strike action last year that led to the Welsh Government making this additionally funded, inflation-plus offer.
“Over the past two years, we have demonstrated that we are a strong and fighting union and, if we do not see further meaningful steps to correct teacher pay and address the multiple crises plaguing our schools and colleges, we are prepared to fight and win again.
“Our members need to see meaningful action over workload and are disappointed with the action so far. Additional Learning Needs Coordinators are especially struggling and need more time outside the classroom to support children and young people.
“The Wales Executive Committee will be meeting soon to decide next steps.”
