Commenting on the passing of motion 14 at Annual Conference in Brighton, Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union, said:
"In the face of far-right rhetoric and hostility towards LGBT+ people, it is important that our schools remain safe and inclusive spaces for all students. The levels of prejudice and scapegoating in the public debate have an immediate impact on students and what they see and view online. Our members are clear that social media access for teenagers must be better regulated.
“Schools have a vital role in challenging prejudice and fostering respect for equality, through the curriculum and classroom. We are proud of the work of members to teach students to think for themselves and around digital and media literacy. Our trade union will continue to support members to make the curriculum LGBT+ inclusive and anti-racist, which is beneficial for all students."
