Routines, Relationships and Regulation: Getting Behaviour Right!

In this session, Sue Cowley will share lots of practical advice on positive approaches to behaviour in your classroom. She will explore the importance of routines, share ways to build strong relationships and explain key strategies to support the development of self-regulation. She will examine how clarity of communication and a focus on the positive can help you manage behaviour and support your learners to build their self-esteem. This will be a practical, interactive and engaging session with lots of real-life examples from early years, primary and secondary classrooms.

  • Reflect on and develop key communication techniques to achieve clarity of expectations
  • Gain an increased understanding of what self-regulation is and how it develops
  • Learn ways to build routines that support agency and build impulse control

Sue Cowley

Sue Cowley is a presenter, speaker, teacher, trainer and author of more than 30 books on education. A qualified early years teacher, she has worked in early years, primary, secondary and international schools in the UK and overseas. Sue’s international bestseller Getting your Class to Behave has been translated into ten languages and is a set text at universities. Her latest books are The Ultimate Guide to Self-Regulation in the Classroom and The Ultimate Guide to Adaptive Teaching.

Sue has written articles for a range of publications, including the TES, Teach Primary, Teach Early Years, Nursery World, Early Years Educator and Teach Secondary. She has featured in numerous education videos and was a regular presenter on Teachers TV. She has also written curriculum materials and online content for Oxford University Press. 

Sue combines her writing and teaching with working internationally as a presenter in countries including China, Brazil, Greece, Italy, The Netherlands and Switzerland. She has provided keynotes, training and CPD for schools, colleges, universities and national organisations including Teach First, the NEU, Swim England, The Anna Freud Centre and The Football Association.

Sue has helped to lead an early years setting for the last 16 years and also works as a teacher there.
