Rebalancing Reading

How can we develop reading motivation and engagement in developing readers of all ages?

With statistics from a range of National and International surveys showing that reading for pleasure in England is in decline, this webinar will explore why this might be and will highlight crucial experiences, knowledge, skills and strategies to support the development of early readers who can read and who choose to do so.

Learning from research on what is successful in both the development of typically developing and struggling readers, we will focus on:

  • Core experiences for successful and motivated readers.
  • The role of phonics in early reading development.
  • How to develop reading motivation and engagement in developing readers of all ages.
  • Practical strategies that can be used in the classroom and to support home/school reading to nurture children who choose to read because they want to, not because they have to.
  • Recommendations for a range of children’s books to support developing readers.

Suitable for: primary and early years members.
