NEU National CPD

Promoting positive friendships: Strategies for support staff

This webinar is about promoting positive friendships for neurodivergent children and young people, whilst making break and lunch work for them too. We'll look at what neurodivergent friendship looks like and why it's different not lesser, then get practical: helping friendships form, creating the conditions where they grow, building a culture of belonging between children and knowing what helps when things go wrong. You'll leave with things you can try straight away and a clearer sense of the difference you already make.

What attendees will take away

  • Spot and support neurodivergent friendship in its many forms
  • Understand why break and lunchtime can be the hardest part of the day for some children
  • Create simple, low-pressure conditions for friendships to grow
  • Support children through fall-outs and friendship breakdowns, recognising when a situation needs escalating
  • Build a culture of belonging and understanding between children

Suitable for: Support staff, open to all NEU members who would find it useful.
