Arts and Minds curriculum campaign

Arts and Minds

Arts and Minds is a coalition of organisations calling for the restoration of all arts and creative subjects as a crucial part of the curriculum.

The arts make us who we are. They create communities. It’s through self-expression and shared experience that we’re able to define ourselves. The arts communicate feelings and shape ideas. They comment and they invite comment. They lead the way, and they show us where we’ve been. They help us think.

Arts and Minds is a coalition of over 20 national organisations – led by the National Education Union – who have come together from across the arts and education sectors. We see all arts and creative subjects as a crucial part of the curriculum and are using our combined professional expertise to call for their restoration. We are joined by our Arts Ambassadors, leading practitioners in their field who represent the breadth of our creative industrie

Arts and Minds is asking government to make 5 commitments to put creativity at the heart of learning:

  • A right to study arts subjects for all children
  • Restore the status of arts education: scrap the EBacc, restore parity between subjects, give schools trust and flexibility
  • End exam factory culture: end high-stakes statutory assessments at primary school and reduce the exam burden at GCSE
  • Equip the education system to deliver a broad, balanced curriculum
  • Fund the arts: restore school funding to allow investment in arts education, and to facilitate links between the education system and industry
