Commenting on the How can we empower teachers to use AI without undermining their professionalism or relationships with students?, a report published today, Daniel Kebede, general secretary of the National Education Union, said:
"It is so important that AI in schools is not used in ways which undermine teachers' professionalism or the activities and cultures which build good learning relationships.
"The teacher-pupil relationship is key to learning and must be protected.
"The overarching message from our roundtable with the EPI is that AI should augment teachers, not replace their expertise, skill or judgement. De-skilling teachers must be avoided.
"Teachers' expertise and joint collaboration must be central to teaching and curriculum planning, and also to schools' policies and practices on AI."
