29 November marks the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The National Education Union (NEU) reiterates its solidarity with all children and their families across Palestine.
This year’s commemoration day follows two years of a horrific war on the people of Gaza which has resulted in the deaths of over 70,000 people – almost a third of whom are children – and left tens of thousands more with life changing injuries.
Schools, homes and hospitals have been destroyed and hunger, disease and trauma are widespread. Children have entered their third year without any formal schooling.
Despite the much-welcome ceasefire, life-saving humanitarian aid is still not able to enter and move freely throughout Gaza. UNRWA and relief agencies must be allowed to continue their vital work proving humanitarian support and assistance to the Palestinian people.
In the occupied West Bank, Israeli military operations, settler violence, settlement-expansion, evictions, demolitions and threats of annexation combine in a toxic mix of oppression to blight the lives of the Palestinian people.
On this International Day of Solidarity, the NEU stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reaffirms their right to peace, justice and self-determination.
