Members are invited to apply for a five-day delegation to Auschwitz, Poland from Sunday, 25 to Friday, 30 May.
The union is pleased to offer ten members and five district secretaries a place on this anti-racism educational tour to study the Holocaust and mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

About the delegation
The NEU has a longstanding affiliation with Stand Up To Racism, a UK organisation that campaign against racism, fascism, Islamophobia and antisemitism, who are co-organising the tour. This educational study tour will be facilitated by David Rosenberg and Julia Bard, who are members of the national committee of the Jewish Socialists’ group and organise educational visits to Auschwitz and Warsaw.
The complete delegation will consist of 25 people, including the ten members and five NEU district secretaries.
Delegates will visit:
- The Warsaw Ghetto
- The Jewish Quarter in Krakow
- Auschwitz-Birkenau
Members will also participate in workshops including on the Holocaust, the Far Right in Poland with Andy Zebrowski and (to be confirmed) Zuzanna Hertzberg, an artist and feminist activist looking at Everyday Resistance, (to be confirmed) Piotr Ciszewski on Polish Labour and anti-fascist history, plus Progressive Education in Poland historically and current issues in history education from a Polish teaching union.
How to apply
Members can apply with the support of their districts by using the application form.
The form must be signed by the district secretary and requires the applicant to complete a statement that includes outlining their experience of/interest in anti-racism work and the Holocaust, and pledged solidarity activities upon return.
Please note, applications made by members without the approval of their district will not be accepted.
Criteria for eligibility
The NEU executive has determined that the following factors will be considered when selecting participants for delegations:
- ensuring a balance across regions and nations
- ensuring a gender balance
- ensuring representation from the diversity of our membership
- minimum of six months remaining on passport from end of delegation date
- prioritisation for activists who have not been on a union delegation overseas in the last three years to afford opportunities for new activists
- prioritisation of activists who have made clear pledges during the nomination process on how they will use their experience to engage new members into activism through anti-racism work.
