Using curiosity and wonder to engage learners

In this upbeat and thought-provoking session, you will be introduced to a variety of items of curiosity and wonder and shown how you can use them to engage your learners. It will also explore on a simplistic level the changes they cause in the brain. The session will:  

  • Alert you to the importance of engagement in learning 
  • Demonstrate a range of easy to obtain items of Wonder 
  • Suggest ways that Wonder, and curiosity can be used in a lesson 
  • Outline ways a school can embrace wonder and curiosity in their day-to-day life 
  • Explain learning using simplified neuroscience  

Suitable for: Anyone who works with young people of any age. Wonder traverses all ages and barriers.

The session will be delivered by Dave Harris a well-known educational author, speaker, and consultant. He has spent 30 years working in schools in various parts of England, including 12 in the role of head teacher. He has worked in all phases of education, including 4 years forming and leading an ‘All through’ (3-18) school. He is now Managing Director of Independent Thinking Limited, one of the major providers of inspirational school support & training. Dave has written 5 leadership books and is currently writing his 6th Book about creating Curious schools, which should be published early in 2027.
