Our Migration Story: Bringing histories of migration into the classroom

Migration has shaped the British Isles since at least Roman times, yet these histories are not widely taught in our classrooms. The Our Migration Story web resource brings Britain's rich, complex, and layered history of migration to life through high-quality scholarship, diverse primary sources, historian-led videos, and ready-to-use activities. In this session, the project team will explain why and how the resource was made. Practising teachers will then share how they utilise the resource in their own teaching. There will be time for questions and discussion.

At this session you will:

  • Understand the background and aims of the Our Migration Story project, and the research partnership behind it
  • Learn more about the content and structure of the resource
  • Be able to find primary sources, videos, lesson plans, and further readings suited to your own curriculum, including KS3 and GCSE migration topics
  • Hear practical examples about scaffolding the material, adapting it for different learners, and handling discussions about migration with confidence
  • Leave with ideas for bringing migration history into your own teaching

Can’t make it? Don’t worry! If you are unable to attend, still register to receive a recording link and watch within 14 days
