Making me matter: Breaking down barriers to attendance

School non-attendance is often a sign that a child or young person is facing challenges. This session explores the range of factors that can influence attendance and considers how schools can respond with curiosity, compassion and effective support. Together, we will look at practical ways to work alongside students and families, while creating school environments where children feel safe, valued, connected and ready to learn.

At this session you will:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the barriers that can contribute to school non-attendance.
  • Consider practical, supportive strategies for working with pupils and families.
  • Learn how to foster a whole-school culture of belonging, engagement, and positive attendance.

Suitable for: All members
