Islamophobic rhetoric and incidents are rising at an alarming rate in our politics, media and wider society, with Home Office data highlighting a 19% increase in hate crimes targeted against Muslims in the year ending March 2025 (Home Office hate crime official statistics, October 2025). Schools have a fundamental role to play in challenging Islamophobia, keeping learners safe and upholding their human rights. This session will support educators to fulfil that role, equipping them with the knowledge, tools and confidence to challenge Islamophobia and create meaningful whole-school change.
Learning outcomes - by the end of this session, educators will:
- Explore pedagogical approaches for tackling Islamophobia in the classroom.
- Identify ways in which the school community can reduce and tackle Islamophobia through the formal and hidden curriculum.
