The Union is pleased to offer places on a three-day delegation to Srebrenica, Bosnia, in the May half term (week commencing 26 May 2025)*.
The visit is in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide that took place in July 1995.
About the Delegation
The NEU has a longstanding affiliation with Remembering Srebrenica, a UK charity that commemorates the Srebrenica genocide and provides education resources for schools.
Delegates will visit the site of the genocide, attend memorial ceremonies, and meet with survivors and organisers of memorial organisations and charities.
How to Apply
Members can be nominated with the support of their Districts by using the nomination form.
The nomination form must be signed by both the District Secretary and Treasurer. Signatures can be electronic and their veracity confirmed by email.
The nomination form requires the applicant to complete a statement that includes outlining their experience of international solidarity work, knowledge of the Srebrenica genocide, understanding of the current situation in Bosnia, and pledged solidarity activities upon return.
Please note, applications made by individuals without the approval of their District will not be accepted.
Criteria for Eligibility
The National Education Union Executive has determined that the following factors will be considered when selecting participants for delegations:
- Ensuring a balance across regions and nations;
- Ensuring a gender balance;
- Ensuing representation from the diversity of our membership;
- Minimum of 6 months remaining on passport from end of delegation date;
- Prioritisation for activists who have not been on a union delegation overseas in the last three years to afford opportunities for new activists; and
- Prioritisation of activists who have made clear pledges during the nomination process on how they will use their experience to engage new members into activism through international solidarity.

The deadline for the receipt of nominations is 5 p.m. on Friday, 15 February 2025.
