Ill-health Retirement benefits may be paid if you have to retire before your Normal Pension Age (NPA) because you are permanently incapable of teaching due to illness or injury. Certain criteria have to be satisfied before a person becomes entitled to benefits.

This guide provides you with information that is useful to know when you’re considering applying for Ill-health retirement with the NI Teachers’ Pension Scheme. It also covers some issues you need to consider before completing the application. In all cases, we recommend that you seek independent financial advice.
