Member benefits

The NEU is proud to be a campaigning union with a strong, clear vision for the future of education. As a member, you’ll have the chance to influence education policy and make your voice heard. Whether you choose to take part in our national or local campaigns or become a workplace rep, your involvement helps shape a better education system for everyone.

What you get

Workplace representation, advice and legal support

Whether you're seeking advice on your employment rights or facing challenges like workload issues, bullying, or workplace accidents, the NEU is here to support you. With our extensive network of workplace reps, local branches, regional offices, NEU Cymru, and a team of legal experts, help is always within reach. You can also contact our dedicated AdviceLine, staffed by professional advisers ready to assist.

A key role of any trade union is to negotiate with employers on behalf of its members. This includes matters such as pay, working conditions, health and safety, and redundancy procedures. To do this effectively, a union must be recognised by the employer—something the NEU has achieved in most schools and colleges where our members work.

Our workplace reps are your first point of contact for support and representation. They’re based in schools and colleges across the country, standing up for members like you and ensuring your voice is heard.

Training and CPD

The NEU is here to support you at every stage of your career—whether you're a teacher, support staff member, lecturer, or in a leadership role. We’re proud to offer a wide range of high-quality training courses, covering topics from behaviour management to transactional analysis, designed to help your career development.

Insurance cover

Free comprehensive insurance cover from personal accidents to loss or damage to personal property, including teaching equipment, whilst undertaking your role as an education professional. NEU members also benefit from free insurance protection and cover for personal accidents at work, loss of or damage to personal property at work, including teaching equipment and personal effects.
