It was announced over the summer that the Government wouldn’t proceed with its Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) this year. CSRs are always very important as they set out how much each Government department – including the Department for Education – have to spend for the next three to five years. The next CSR will be particularly important at a time when schools and colleges are crying out for investment and an end to funding cuts.

Instead of a CSR, the Government will now just publish departmental budgets for one year (2020/21) in an announcement in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 4th September. Ahead of this announcement, the NEU has made the submission to the Government below setting out the level of funding needed to reverse cuts and invest in our education service. The NEU will watch the announcement closely to see how it measures up to what we are calling for.
