The National Education Union has its members learning and development at the core of its work. We remain committed to supporting you in your development throughout your career and we have a track record of running first-class training courses. 

Reps and officers training are free for NEU members and the national CPD events are heavily subsidised for NEU members. Please inform us as soon as possible if you cannot attend. Your place is strictly non-transferable.

Coaching and mentoring are development techniques aimed at enhancing an individual's skills, knowledge and performance. While both require similar skills, coaching tends to focus on enhancing task and performance while mentoring is a longer-term approach aimed at building capability, developing self-reliance and the working towards of career goals. Both have an essential role to play in an education context and in ensuring that individuals fulfil their potential and achieve a rewarding and productive working life.

Our district and branch secretaries are a vital part of the Union’s lay structures. This course is essential for all newly elected secretaries and any experienced secretaries who have not attended training. It is in two parts with a few months in between for participants to reflect on their learning and put into practice some of the strategies gained from the course.
