Commenting on polling from YouGov commissioned and published today by the Sutton Trust, which shows parents’ views on the impact of the pandemic on their child’s development and wellbeing, Dr Mary Bousted, joint general secretary of the National Education Union, said:
"The Sutton Trust survey adds new weight to evidence that the Government should not ignore: the impact of Covid-19 on the social life of young children has been severe. The quality of their relationships, their play and their social activity has deteriorated. The report confirms what early years educators have repeatedly told Government: recovery from the pandemic must be concerned with building back the social element in children's lives. A diet of formal learning and frequent testing will hold back development."
