Commenting on this anniversary, Dr Mary Bousted, Joint General Secretary of the National Education Union, said:

“When the world said ‘Never Again’ after the horror of the Holocaust, the systematic murder of over 8,000 Muslim men and boys in July 1995 meant that we failed to honour those words.

'On the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide, the NEU, heeding the call of survivors, reaffirms its commitment to remembering the genocide, uniting against hate and celebrating diversity.

'This year’s theme - “Every Action Matters” - reminds us of the role that each of us can and must play in uniting against persecution, racism and discrimination in all its forms so that Never Again becomes Never again.

'The NEU remembers those who lost their lives, stands with those who mourn, and draws strength from the courage of those who continue to work for an ever-peaceful Bosnia and Herzegovina – and with it a more just world'.
