“In reaching his decision, the First Minister has identified cost as a significant factor in the Welsh Government U turn and recognised the difficulties experienced by public services generally as a result of the extended period of austerity imposed by Westminster.

“ Education, must be a priority in terms of spending for Welsh Government. Capital spending for schools and colleges in Wales is critical as we move towards education reform and we are all aware of the need for more investment in our education system, and the challenges of maintaining the 21st Century schools programme under the current arrangements.

“The ‘wider financial context’ for education is hard to ignore and the NEU would welcome an immediate announcement on education funding and see this as an opportunity to invest in education and reverse school cuts.”
