Wales’s largest education union has welcomed the Education Minister’s announcement that teachers in Wales will receive a 2.75% pay rise. David Evans, Wales secretary of the National Education Union Cymru, said:
"We welcome the Minister's announcement today on pay for hard working teachers in Wales - members will be pleased to finally see the extra funds in their pay packets."
"We are pleased that pay in Wales will keep pace with pay in England and we particularly welcome the 5% pay rise for Newly Qualified Teachers. However, we believe this should have been applied across the whole range of teachers' pay to start to restore the losses suffered since the onset of austerity measures in 2010. Wales has missed the opportunity to make a real statement of intent regarding its valuation of the teaching profession."
