Commenting on Baroness Hallett’s recommendation to include the impact on children and young people in the Inquiry’s remit, Kevin Courtney, joint general secretary of the National Education Union, said:

"We are pleased that our call for the expansion of the terms of reference to include the particular impact of the pandemic on children and young people has been made by so many others and heeded by the inquiry team.  The NEU had argued strongly for this to happen. Schools have been repeatedly let down by Government during the pandemic and children have paid a high price for these failures. This aspect of the Government's pandemic response and pre pandemic preparation needs to be at the heart of the Inquiry's work and it is essential the Prime Minister now accepts Baroness Hallett's recommendations."
