There has been a range of different guidance issued by Department of Education, Northern Ireland and communications to schools around the proposed restart of schools in August. The key guidance was issued by DE on 19 June, and was followed by an FAQ on 24 June.

On the 23 June, we held a NEU Zoom Meeting for members. The 90 minute session was joined by almost 170 members. A lot of questions were asked at the meeting and we undertook to collate them and try to produce a FAQ paper to provide as much up to date information as possible. Since then the DE Permanent Secretary has written to schools with further guidance.

The FAQs are our best efforts of collating all of the relevant information in the DE Guidance, including the FAQ and our responses to the questions asked by NEU members at the Zoom Meeting – please feel free to share this paper with colleagues.  We are also acutely aware that today is the end of what has been an extraordinary, and surreal, academic year. While plans are evolving for next year we still don't know exactly members will face when we go back to school.

NEU members across Northern Ireland have worked flat out to supervise vulnerable pupils and the children of key workers, at the same time as engaging in innovate ways to support all other pupils through remote learning, while dealing with their own childcare as well.

Please take the time now to ‘switch off’ and take a well-earned rest and some time with your families.

Stay safe and well - NEU will continue to work on your behalf and post updates on this page.
