Speaking about the Welsh Government announcement for extra £10 million for transport, including school and college transport, David Evans, Wales secretary for the National Education Union Cymru, said:

“NEU Cymru are extremely pleased to see that Welsh Government will be using extra money to support local authorities and local bus operators, including extra money for school and college transport.

“It is really important that the return to school in September is as safe as possible. We have been highlighting the challenge of mixing groups of children on school transport and hope the extra money can be used to try and make social distancing a possibility.

“We know that school and college transport can be busy. Hopefully, running more buses will make it safer and reduce the likelihood of the virus being transmitted between pupils on crowded school transport, which no one wants to see.”
