"Schools in the yellow and green support categories are entitled to up to 10 days support from their regional consortia. We have always maintained that our education professionals work hard, and this year's increase in those categories clearly demonstrate that they do so with minimal support from their consortia.

"Meanwhile, the number of schools in the red category - eligible for up to 25 days support - remains stable. To us this shows that it's time to call time on the consortia model. The so-called improvement agencies actually cause hard working education professionals in our schools extra pressure by focusing on 'challenge', rather than the support which would be welcome.

"Welsh Government needs to urgently review their role and undertake an impact assessment of the costs, benefits and risks associated with each of the regional consortia whilst ensuring a focus on helping reduce workload and increasing wellbeing in our classrooms"
