Barnsley's event took place at 17.50 on Friday 24th January, 2020 at Horizon Community College.

On entry into the venue 'The Anne Frank' exhibition posters set the scene of the evening, to report and remember the events that lead up to the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the systematic and planned attempt by the Nazis and their collaborators to murder all the Jews in Europe. In addition they persecuted anyone they believed  threatened their ideal of a 'pure Aryan race'.  On HMD thousands of people across the UK come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future.

There were speeches from Dan Jarvis MP and Dr Iby Knill BEM, an Auschwitz survivor. Her story was fascinating, terrible and very moving, as were the images that were shown.

The Holocaust competition winner's poem on the theme of Stand Together was shared with everyone. It was simple but very effective and moving...... by standing together we can make the world a better place.
