Management Side is in agreement with NEU, and the other teacher trade unions, that we should do everything we can to minimise the unprecedented pressures currently faced by our school leaders and teachers.
In this context, and in light of the continuing impact of Covid-19, Management Side has revisited the issue of PRSD and now proposes that PRSD should be paused once again for the 2020/21 academic year.
TNC is conscious of the continuing impact of Covid-19 on our schools and of the considerable effort being made by all school staff to continue the delivery of learning for the children in their care whilst also dealing with this unprecedented situation.
The impact of Covid-19 on the normal operation of PRSD for the 2019/20 academic year and the consequences for Leadership, Threshold and UPS pay progression wef September 2020 were communicated in the letter issued by Management Side to all schools in May 2020.
The continuing pressures from Covid-19 with regards to the normal operation of PRSD have been discussed by Management Side and Teachers’ Side of the TNC and it has been agreed that PRSD will be “paused” for the 2020/21 academic year.
It is very much the intention that PRSD will be restarted in September 2021 for all schools and three objectives for the 2021/22 academic year will have to be agreed for all staff. This PRSD meeting will only have to agree objectives and no review of previous objectives will be required.
We will review arrangements and issue communication to all schools with regards to pay progression effective from September 2021. This advice will follow later in 2021 and will reflect the situation that no PRSD Review Statements will be required for the 2020/21 academic year to evidence pay progression in 2021.
While PRSD is being paused for this academic year, it is important to note that high quality professional development opportunities are available to all Principals, Vice Principals and teachers through the ‘Supporting Learning’ website and every teacher can avail of Teacher Professional Learning (TPL) related to the Covid-19 context. Schools are already focussing on managing Covid-19 through online / remote / blended learning, teacher and children’s health and wellbeing etc. These important issues could also be used for professional development.
- The EA’s Supporting Learning website has been designed to support teachers through the 2020/21 academic year and beyond.
- It aims to promote the reflective practice which is central to DE’s Strategy for Teacher Professional Learning.
