Resources and Training for School Representatives

Accredited representatives are entitled to paid time off for training associated with their role. Time off for union duties is determined within the parameters of “what is reasonable”.  Provided reasonable notice is given, adequate leave should be granted for reps to attend training.

Representing Members at School level

Our first in a series of webinars is for school representatives, to inform and update them on important matters relating to their roles and responsibilities.

The session focused on the ‘right to be accompanied’ in individual cases, and representing members’ collective concerns to school management.

2022 webinar via Zoom sessions for members (all dates to be confirmed)

  • Maternity/paternity/adoptive/shared parental leave.
  • Brief absences/flexible working/career break.

These one-hour webinars are available to all members to inform and update them on important matters relating to their rights and responsibilities and teachers’ terms and conditions of employment generally.

INTO/NEU/UTU School Representatives Training

This is a follow-up two-day course for school representatives (dates TBC).

This course is a follow-up course to the one-day induction course, (in person) for all INTO/NEU/UTU school representatives and will deal with various agreed procedures for teachers, including Discipline and Grievance. Accredited school representatives are entitled to the day out of school to attend trade union training.

  • Pay and contracts.

These one-hour webinars are available to all school representatives to inform and update them on important matters relating to their roles and responsibilities and teachers’ terms and conditions of employment generally.

Reps can also access training opportunities through the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).
