Pay

Advice on pay scales, pay progression and how to secure fair pay in your workplace.

The National Education Union wants pay decisions to be based only on the appraisal process, with teachers progressing unless concerns raised during the process have not been successfully addressed through support provided. Now that all pay progression - and even the annual cost of living increase - depends on appraisal outcomes and criteria set by schools, there is no sense not challenging an unacceptable policy.

We will continue to challenge the Government to reverse its attacks on the national pay structure. Use the information in our pay toolkit to find out about pay progression and challenging pay decisions and download the joint union pay advice for 2018-19 (England version/Wales version/Welsh translation). This guidance includes comprehensive pay scales for 2018-19 and advice on their application in your school or academy. STRB submission

Our evidence and supplementary evidence to the School Teachers Review Body (for its review of teachers’ pay from September 2018) set out the NEU’s case for a substantial pay increase for all teachers, beginning with an immediate 5% across the board increase for all teachers which should be fully funded by the Government.
