Pay negotiations

The NEU and other FE unions met the Association of Colleges on 26 November to consider our pay claim. The AoC offered a pay increase of 1%, or £250 (whichever was the greater) and this was not accepted by the unions.

Trade Union Side Pay Claim 2020/21

The joint unions have tabled their intent to put in a pay claim for 2020/21 on 15 September to the AoC. NEU wants to secure a pay increase that makes a significant contribution to restoring the real-terms pay losses suffered by members in the sector and that reflects their key role in education including tackling the COVID-19 crisis.

The trade union side pay claim for 2020-21 is:

  • A significant move towards the full restoration of college pay levels to where they would be had college pay kept pace with inflation since 2009.
  • For the living wage, calculated by the Living Wage Foundation, to be the minimum wage in the sector, with all further education colleges in England becoming accredited living wage employers with the Foundation.
  • For all contracted-out services to be brought back in-house with improvements in terms and conditions equal to those already directly employed by the college.
