Without the right support, children who have challenges talking and understanding words face huge hurdles in literacy, learning, having good mental health, and making friends. This session will delve into a range of targeted approaches for supporting children with speech and language challenges and consider how to implement these in a mainstream classroom.
At this session you will:
- Become familiar with a variety of ways to adapt teaching, differentiate learning and use targeted strategies in the classroom to support children with speech and language challenges
- Consider how to implement strategies to support children with challenges in a variety of areas, including attention and listening, understanding, expressive language/talking, social communication and speech
- Consider some ways to apply a neurodiversity-affirming framework to support for children with speech and language challenges
- Learn how to work with others to support children with speech and language challenges, including with specialist support
Suitable for: Primary teachers. This session would also be useful for support staff.
