Oracy in the diverse classroom: A spoken word poetry approach

Learnings from a Paul Hamlyn funded Teacher Development Programme, which brings spoken word poets and teachers together to use creativity in the classroom to enhance students' oracy skills, in particular those with EAL.

Oracy is considered essential for supporting literacy, confidence and even social mobility in students. How can we ensure that our classrooms are oracy-rich and support all children in the classroom? Join this session to hear learnings from the 'Who are we?' Project, a Teacher Development Programme funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation. This collaborative project between Cleveland Road Primary School and Eastside brings teachers and spoken word poetry facilitators together to develop creative habits and oracy skills in classrooms, with a particular focus on inclusivity. The session will cover:

What is oracy? What does it look like in the classroom?

  • Why spoken word poetry?
  • The 'Who are we?' Project
  • Techniques and strategies to engage your learners

Audience: The content is most suitable for those working in KS2 and KS3

This webinar will be recorded and available for 14 days. If you are unable to attend at this time, register as normal to receive the recording link. This will be sent the day after the webinar
