Use this checklist in conjunction with the joint union checklist for schools which includes advice on more general issues. There is also a checklist for PRU and alternative provision establishments.
All pupils returning full-time from the start of the autumn term is an enormously challenging task, not least for those students with SEND.
DfE emphasises risk assessments and control measures, but it is not advising schools to adopt the physical distancing measures in the rest of society.
Union reps should share this checklist (and their school’s risk assessments) with the school SENCO and the school SEND team and invite them to comment formally and informally via zoom meetings or other means. Members should be updated on progress and remain fully involved.
This checklist covers:
- Risk assessments for children and young people with EHC plans
- Temporary changes to send legislation
- Support staff and visiting specialist staff
- Enhanced cleaning
- PPE/masks/face coverings
- School transport
- Pupils at greater risk
- Curriculum expectations
