Indicative ballot - supporters

Volunteer and help us win the ballot

The Government’s cuts to school funding are threatening the quality of education. Would you like to help the NEU in its funding campaign?

It need not take up much of your time. If you've got a few minutes to spare, we'd like you to volunteer or become a school or college rep. By acting together, we can make a difference to the issues that are of importance to teachers and children.

Want some tips for getting the word out about our ballot? Find out how our executive member Stefan Ealing has used rep density and his motorbike to encourage members in Ealing to vote YES.

Things you can do

  1. Put up a poster on your school noticeboard
  2. Hold a meeting in your school
  3. Spread the word on social media
  4. Sign the fairer funding petition
  5. Become a rep

Please let us know the actions you are willing to take using this form and we will get back to you on what to do.

1. Put up a poster in the staff room

Put the poster up on a noticeboard or in a prominent place as soon as you can so members know about the ballot. You can order more here.

2. Hold a meeting at your school

The most important thing every single member can do is make sure their colleagues have voted. Even if you are not a union rep, we would like you to hold a meeting of all members in your school, talk to everyone about the funding campaign and encourage those eligible to vote and vote YES!

If they have questions, you can find all the answers you need in ballot enquiries, along with a form to send more complex queries.

3. Spread the word on social media

Once you know everyone in your school or department has voted, please don’t stop there! Make sure you speak to other NEU members that you might know from your networks and check they have voted.

Spread the word on social media and encourage every member to vote and support the ballot using the hashtag #HandsUp

Tell the world that you've voted YES

Use the buttons below to post or tweet - personalise the text to show people how you feel. Tag your friends and colleagues to encourage them to take part.

Download this shareable image

Then print it out and:

  • write why you voted on it
  • take a selfie holding it
  • share!

Don't forget: tag your friends and colleagues, include @NEUnion so we can share it as widely as possible, and use the #FundingFriday and #HandsUp hashtags.

If you're not eligible to vote, see our supporters page for how to lend support on social media and our volunteers page for details of how to sign up to support the campaign.

4. Sign the petition

If you've voted and shared, or you're not eligible for the ballot, please sign this petition.

5. Become a rep

The more workplace based reps we have, the stronger our funding campaign. Why not become a rep in your school or college?
